North Argyll Carers are based in The North Argyll Carers Centre and are managed by Quarriers which is a registered charity. We offer information, advice and support to Young Carers under the age of 18, who find themselves in a responsible role of being a carer.
Initially we ran a very small project with Carers Strategy Money that enabled us to apply for The Rural Challenge Fund which was awarded to us in April 2005 for a 3 year period. Recently, we applied successfully to Comic Relief for funding which will allow us to take our service to outlying areas including those on the Islands.
How can we help?
Inividual Support – one to one with a worker, for those in need of extra support.
Young Carer Clubs – These run on alternate Thursdays, one for primary and one for secondary school. A chance to take a break, meet other young carers, have something to eat andtake part in some fun activities.
Day trips and residentials – We offer day trips and occasionally there will be the chance to go away for a few days, like in the case of the Roses project.
Raising Awareness – We are always looking for ways to raise the profile and issues of young carers, locally and with other organisations.
Information and Support - We aim to support young carers and their families by providing them with the information they need, advocacy and
‘coming soon’
Young Carers Forum – a chance for you to have your say. Get involved in how the clubs, activities and project are run!!
Fundraising Activities – We look for different ways to raise money for the project throughout the year but we also get young carers involved in some sponsorship.
The Roses Project
The Roses Project
The Roses Project was set up in 1990 to help children from different backgrounds with various problems. They work in different parts of Scotland and the range of activities include: abseiling, kayaking, snorkelling, gorge walking and many more. The aim of the project is to help young people have fun and feel better about themselves by:
-taking responsibility for their own actions and decisions;
-working as part of a team;
-facing and overcoming difficult challenges;
-sharing ideas and treating each other with respect
In October 2007, a group of Young Carers were lucky enough to take part in the Project on Mull thanks to Comic Relief. Take a look in the GALLERY at the fun they had and the amazing challenges they had to face.
